The other day, I was reading a magazine at my volunteer work and it was indeed a Honduran Red Cross magazine, the only one I found done by the institution.
Well, I found this little fella in an advertisement and I thought I'd share this cutie with you guys :)

We have our winner!
Today, our first poll has closed and they came in first with an astounding 57% majority, so we dedicate this post to Pandas.
These bears are originally from China and are found naturally ONLY in China. They are easily identified by their black spots around their eyes, ears and body.
Pandas are omnivorous but their diet is made up about 99% by bamboo.
Pandas are endangered species and their population is being observed constantly to prevent extinction.
Personally, I love pandas and I'd love to hug one.
Of course, we could not miss the video of the baby Panda that went viral:

Goran Visnjic on PETA ad!
Perhaps I am a bit farfetched but this ad got me thinking.
There is this certain characteristic which has been reinforced over and over again in me: Humanity. It is the first fundamental principle in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (which I am part of :). To me, humanity means aiding people who are suffering, simply helping someone who needs it disregarding my interests or origin.
So why is it that some of us(humans) seem oblivious to the suffering of animals?
I bet a scientist working for Pantene would give his/her life to end the suffering of his dear ones yet, they choose to participate in cruel acts such as animal testing. There are exceptions, perhaps the fur maker that works long periods of time to feed his family, can not get another job, but he still contributes to the bigger picture.
I really think we need to recheck our values and realize that animal cruelty should not be an option.
Coral Reefs in Honduras
Coral reefs are one of the most beautiful underwater structures, which are made up of calcium carbonate produced by the corals.
One of the most beautiful coral reef is located in Bay Islands, Honduras.
It's the second largest barrier reef in the world, and they form some of the most diverse ecosystem in the world.
They are very delicate and have experienced massive damage worldwide.
The coral reefs contains a very extensive variety of species.
Most of them are endangered species so we have to take care of them. We cannot destroy this important part of our ecosystem. We should protect them. <3
Chick hatching
Perhaps this is not really news to us but I really liked this video because it is simple.
I can easily imagine a 5 year old watching this video.

Spotlight on: Río Platano Biosphere Reserve
This Reserve is located in Honduras (near the Caribbean Ocean) in an area called la Mosquitia which is a bit secluded from the rest of the country since it is not so easy to access to it , it stretches to 5,250 km².
It is the second 'lung' of America, after the Amazon. It was declared a World Heritage site and biosphere in 1982 and contains a big part of the forest area of Honduras.
Something unique about this reserve is its variety, which is not yet fully discovered. It ranges from tropical rainforests to mangroves, coastal lagoons and savannahs that later melt with mountains! Its record contains 39 species of mammals, 377 species of birds and 126 species of reptiles and amphibians.
The rare or endangered species located in this reserve: giant anteater, jaguar, ocelot, margay, Caribbean West Indian manatee, and Central American tapir.
Its rich flora and fauna are not the only outstanding qualities of this reserve, 4 ethnic groups reside in this area: Garifunas, Misquitos, Pech y Sumo (tawakas). These groups dedicate mostly to agricultural activities.
Unfortunately, this area has been a target for drug trafficking and the population in general is not educated to care for this vulnerable environment. Hopefully this will change soon!

Cheetahs
The female cheetah takes care of their cubs to teach them hunting and other important abilities that are key to survival.
Cheetahs are dangerous animals (to humans in the wild) but still we love them! <3
